Population Projections
OPB is charged with the responsibility of preparing, maintaining, and furnishing official demographic data for the state (O.C.G.A. § 45-12-171). These projections provide a foundation for assessing important future infrastructure and public service needs. Examples include transportation planning, certificate of need, school construction, water planning, and other publicly funded projects.
Methodology
These projections were prepared using the standard cohort component demographic methodology, relying upon recent historical fertility, migration, and age data. Year-by-year projections for the state are available through the year 2065.
Projections are updated annually, with the most recent projections using baseline data from the Census Bureau’s Vintage 2025 Population Estimates. The data consist of residential state and county level populations by age, sex, and race.
